How Is Osteopathic Manual Therapy Different from Other forms of therapy?
Osteopathy utilizes an integrated, whole-body approach to care. Osteopathic treatment is guided by foundational principles: - The body functions as a unit The body possesses self-healing and self-regulating mechanisms Structure and function are reciprocally related With the understanding that when movement is restricted in one area, it can create compensation elsewhere. Treatment aims to identify and address these underlying patterns rather than focusing solely on symptom relief. Osteopathic care emphasizes the understanding of how and why dysfunction developed, and why it is being maintained within the body. Each session is individualized and responsive to the person in front of us, rather than applying a standardized or global general treatment.
How Many Treatments Do I Need?
Osteopathic care is not always linear. Over time, the body develops compensation patterns to function where there is dysfunction. As the body is an interconnected system; each appointment is catered to your body in that moment, and related back to the bodies global lesion patterns. Every appointment is individualized, and responsive to where you are in that moment. We reassess how your body has responded to previous treatments, and how those changes have integrated into your overall movement and function. The goal is not just temporary relief, but to address the root of the problem. There is no fixed number of treatments required. Many people begin to notice meaningful changes within two to five sessions, as underlying patterns become clearer, and the body begins to adapt. However, healing progresses at a pace that is unique to you. Care is always patient-centred. Your comfort, safety, and overall well-being guide every stage of assessment and treatment.
Is Osteopathic manual therapy safe?
Your first visit begins with a detailed health history, where we discuss past injuries, medical conditions, and anything currently affecting your well-being. This ensures that your care is safe, thoughtful, and aligned with your needs. For your safety; medical clearance for manual therapies such as Massage, Chiropractic, Physiotherapy…etc. is required. Treatment is never one-size-fits-all. Each session is adapted to where your body is at in that moment. As your body changes, so does the approach — supporting its natural ability to recover, rebalance, and function at its best.
